For candle makers

Inventory software for candle makers

Wax is rarely the thing that stops a pour. It is usually the wicks, the lids or a fragrance oil you thought you had more of. Makeable is candle making inventory software that counts every component of the finished candle, not just the expensive one, and gives you a pour count you can trust before you heat the melter.

A worked example

Amber jar candle

  • Soy wax9000 g in stock, 180 g per candle50 units
  • Wicks42 in stock, 1 per candle42 units
  • Amber jars60 in stock, 1 per candle60 units
  • Fragrance oil1200 ml in stock, 18 ml per candle66 units

Capacity is the smallest of those numbers, so today you can make 42. The bottleneck is wicks, and that is the line to buy first. Read the method in our guide to production capacity planning.

What you track
  • Soy or paraffin wax
  • Wicks and stickers
  • Jars and lids
  • Fragrance oil
  • Dye
  • Labels and boxes

Every one of these becomes a line in your recipe, so you can also calculate your bill of materials and work out cost and margin per unit.

The daily problem

What this actually fixes

The cheapest part caps the batch

A twenty cent wick decides how many forty dollar candles leave the studio this week.

Scents multiply your recipes

Eight fragrances across three vessel sizes is twenty four recipes. Each one needs its own honest ceiling.

Market and craft fair runs

Plan a fair backwards from the stock you hold, so the van leaves full and nothing is half poured.

The bottleneck view is the whole product for me. It told me wick length, not wax, was capping my batches. Fixed it in one order.
